2010 Be a Friend, Be a Hero
annual campaign co-chairs

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa continues to provide children and teens in our community a positive place to grow. Please help us continue this legacy of hope and support by investing in the Be a Friend, Be a Hero annual giving campaign. Since 1963, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa has been serving the community, thanks in part to investments made by individuals and businesses like you. All donations made to the campaign directly support critical youth programs at our four club sites and outreach programs.

Today, more than 7,800 youth are served annually by the non-profit organization. Our campaign theme – Be a Friend, Be a Hero – reflects the strong and valuable mentoring our members receive from our experienced staff and dedicated volunteers. Mentoring helps youth in their personal and educational development as well as prepares them to be productive future citizens.

Additionally, the Club offers more than 100 programs in the following five core areas: The Arts; Character & Leadership Development; Education & Career Development; Health & Life Skills; and Sports, Fitness & Recreation. Programs are carefully designed to develop life-enhancing skills while nurturing self-esteem.

As co-chairs of this year’s campaign, we ask that you join us in providing the necessary resources that will allow us to mentor the next generation and provide our Club kids the opportunity to grow into community leaders. An investment at any level is truly appreciated.

Be a Hero for our Kids so they can have Mentors for Life!

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Iowa are largely successful because of generous gifts and donations from caring individuals and community-focused corporations and organizations.

Be a Friend, Be a Hero is the annual giving campaign for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa. Due to the generosity of key donors helping to cover the costs of this campaign, 100% of your investment goes directly to our programs. When you invest in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa, Be a Friend, Be a Hero campaign, you are making a commitment to will help young people find a safe and constructive place where they belong during the critical out of school hours—a time when many kids are left unsupervised.

We, in turn, are making a commitment to be there for more than 7,800 youth in Central Iowa are currently participating in our programs and activities. About half of the kids that we serve in Central Iowa come from households with less than $10,000 annual income. We only charge $10 a year for membership so that no child is denied the opportunity to be a club member. Our annual cost for one child to be a club member is $980. To continue providing a safe, positive place for our growing population of youth to learn and grow, we need your help.

With an investment of $980, you can become a Hero to one club member and help us provide that child with a positive place to grow.

A gift to Be a Friend, Be a Hero at any level is greatly appreciated and will collectively power the potential in more children.
