Iowa 2-1-1

The Iowa 2-1-1 system is dedicated to "build Iowa's capacity to strengthen the way Iowan's access health and engage in civilian life" by referring people to appropriate agencies and programs.

2-1-1 is the national abbreviated dialing code for free confidential access to health and human services information and referral. It is an easy to remember universal number for people to gain access to services without having to search them out on their own. Realizing people have a variety of means to seek out information, in addition to dialing 2-1-1, our database is available on this searchable website.

When you don't know where to turn for help, our Information and Referral Specialists are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. During 2008, the eight 2-1-1 Centers covering the state of Iowa answered more than 177,000 calls.

Visiting Nurse Services

Visiting Nurse Services (VNS) has been a leader in providing quality health care programs for Polk County since 1908. We are a non-profit organization who has your best interests at heart. Our dedicated staff of over 100 compassionate healthcare professionals is always on call to help you. We make it our mission to join with other community health and social service agencies to offer an excellence in health care and educational needs in our area.

VNS offers a variety of valuable services to meet the health and social needs of those that depend on us. VNS provides lifelong health services by working directly with a diverse group of individuals to provide comprehensive and skilled care. We help people of all ages from day one, by furnishing everything from educational advice on the importance of prenatal care to monitoring the blood sugar levels of a senior adult suffering from diabetes. We care about our community - we are here for you.
