  Art Club

The Art Club teaches kids all aspects of fine art. Artist John Jannenga works with the club kids at the First Christian Site to learn basic drawing techniques, water colors, and airbrushing. They have short theme based lessons. The kids recently studied Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sedlak and then created their own version of a Wild Thing. Here are a few examples of the kids' work (click to see full-size):

The art club has had their “Sensible Art” on display at the State Fair as well as part of the VSA Arts of Iowa moving exhibit. This exhibit is designed to be “seen” with your hands in addition to your eyes. The art room is a safe place for the kids to express themselves. The kids have also learned how to mat and frame their work.

Our kids are also part of an artist trading card exchange. Once a month the kids and local artists create baseball card size trading cards that they then trade with each other or other artists. The club welcomes area artists to participate with our kids. This is also open to anyone interested in trading their unique trading cards for those of our club kids or area artists.
