Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa - First Christian Unit offers a Community Service Club for kids in 3rd through 5th grade. Each week the kids learn about making a difference within the church building, the neighborhood and the community. They have learned about making a difference to the environment and being green.

This program is led by staff member David Fugate. The kids decide on the projects for their club, our staff is just there to make sure they are safe, educational, and fun. Last fall

the Community Kids raked five large bags of leaves for the church, litter clean up around neighborhood businesses, and created posters about the importance of recycling. During the Christmas season, they created gift baskets from recycled containers to take home as gifts for others. This spring they are planning on doing more cleanups for the neighborhood, but expanding it to homebound people.

The kids not only love helping others, but love to see things cleaner and know they are making a difference. This program has also made a difference in the amount of litter found around the church building. They are now taking more pride in their surroundings and try to make a bigger difference to their community.
