Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa broke records on November 17 in celebration of the organization’s 60th anniversary, raising nearly $5 million to support Des Moines kids and teens.

In 1963, five community leaders came together to establish the Boys Club of Des Moines, which later became Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa in 1983. Our founders Bernie Baker, Jr.; A.H. Blank; Ellis I. Levitt; E.T. Meredith, Jr; and Miles Mills, Sr. realized that many youth did not have a safe and supportive place to go. A place that would afford them the opportunity to interact, grow and get off on the right foot in life.

Now, 60 years later, with eight Club sites in the Des Moines metro, we are one of the largest youth organizations in the community.
