You can make a difference in the lives of Des Moines youth by becoming a volunteer.

We believe volunteers are the heart and soul of every community, and it is this spirit of giving that inspires action. Your investment of time is important, and we thank you for making our Club members and families a priority.

From kickball to cooking classes, homework assistance to events, there’s an opportunity to fit any volunteer’s interest or skills. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities at each of our eight Club sites and administrative office.

Individual Volunteering

Every day, individuals like you make a positive difference in the lives of local youth at our Clubs throughout Des Moines. Individual volunteers lend a hand to help facilitate programs and activities that enrich the lives of our Club members.

To become a Club volunteer, please complete a volunteer interest application. Once completed, Jessica Louis, Volunteer & Club Support Coordinator, will be in contact regarding next steps.

Current Individual Volunteer Opportunities:

We ask that all of our General Club Volunteers commit to at least 30 hours with a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly shift schedule.

To participate in our volunteering opportunities, all individuals must submit a background check to jlouis@bgcci.org. It costs Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa $30 to run each background check. We ask that all individuals donate towards their background check to help cover the costs of onboarding. To donate, please mail checks to Jessica Louis with “background check” listed in the memo or visit our donations page.

Please understand that we do not accept court-ordered community service.

Group Volunteering

Our group volunteer projects are ideal for corporate team-building experiences outside of the office. Company-sponsored volunteer activities are welcomed throughout the year at Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa. From skills-based opportunities to facilities maintenance to hanging out with the kids, volunteer projects offer great team building engagements for your employees. We’ll work with you to pick a Club location that’s convenient for your group.
